town_sealLocated in the northeast corner of New London County, Voluntown is a rural community consisting of 39.8 square miles with two-thirds of the town made up of state forest. Pachaug State Forest offers many outdoor activities; such as hunting, camping, hiking and horseback riding. The town hall and library are located in the Village Center, along with the PreK-8 school, Constitution Field, the walking track, and gazebo. Voluntown was Incorporated in 1721 and has a rich history of textile mills, historic buildings, the Civilian Conservation Corps. (CCC Camp), folklore and was originally known as “Volunteer Town”.

Public Hearings 05/21/24 at VES

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Due to an error in the posting of the Town Meeting and Referendum, they will both be postponed until further notice. Dates will be finalized in the next couple of days.
The Public Hearings on the sale of town owned property at 2 Church Street and the proposed ordinance amendments, as well as the BETA road maintenance public presentation WILL STILL BE TAKING PLACE at the scheduled date/time of May 21, 7PM at the Voluntown Elementary School gymnasium. 
Sorry for any inconvenience, but I want to make sure that all residents have a chance to vote on the proposed budgets by going to referendum. The sale of town owned property and the ordinance amendments will be voted on at the rescheduled town meeting. – Tracey

May 21- Public Hearing on the sale of the town owned property 2 Church Street, proposed amendments to the Building Code ordinance, and proposed amendments to the Building Permit Fee ordinance held in the gymnasium at the Voluntown Elementary School starting at 7PM.

Building and Land Use Office Closed Monday 5/20/24

The Building and Land Use Office will be closed on Monday 5/20/24. Please email tlussier@voluntown.gov or leave a voicemail at (860) 376 – 3867 for assistance. For this week ONLY, in-person assistance will only be available during building inspector and zoning enforcement officer/planner hours. The Building and Land Use hours of operation and in-person assistance will return back to normal after Memorial Day Weekend. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Public Hearing May 21: Sale of  Town Owned Property 2 Church Street

Notice is hereby given that an Informational Public Hearing for the Town of Voluntown for the sale of 2 Church Street will be held on May 21, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. in the Voluntown Elementary School, 195 Main Street, Voluntown, CT.  The Public Hearing will be livestreamed on the Town YouTube channel which is Town of Voluntown-Government. The vote on the sale will take place at the Annual Town Meeting that directly follows the public hearing.

In October of 2023 a Request for Proposals went out for the Sale of Town Property 2 Church Street. The posting can be viewed on the town website here. Certified letters were sent to all of the adjacent property owners and the RFP was posted through our regular posting practices. The link to the bid document is on the town website. At the bid deadline on November 28, one bid was received from David and Laureen Blanchette for the purchase of the property for $40,000.

Revaluation Data Mailers

Dear Residential Property Owners,
To assist in our state-mandated property revaluation, eQuality will be mailing all residential property owners a data mailer this week. The data mailer contains detailed information about your property. We kindly request that you verify the accuracy of all data on the mailer by either following the instructions described on the mailer to submit your response online or by noting any discrepancies on the data mailer, signing it and returning it via mail. This step is critical in the assessment process, as accurate data ensures the most precise valuation of your property. A response is required within 10 days whether corrections are needed or not.

Board of Education 24/25 Budget Public Hearing on April 18

The Board of Education is holding their 24/25 Budget Public Hearing on Thursday, April 18, at 7PM in the Board of Education Meeting Room in the Superintendent Office Building. The Board of Education Meeting will follow.
